ABOUT
Hi. Hello. G'day!
My name is Loretta and I am the heart behind Hi. Hello. G'day.
My history with languages stems all the way from my childhood, growing up with Italian parents and having to learn English as a second language at a very young age.
My parents arrived in the late 1950's from Northern Italy as part of the post war European migration, they set foot in Australia with no English and proceeded to make their home in Broken Hill assisted by migrants who were already established. I was born in Broken Hill two years after they married, our neighbourhood and all my friends consisted of children of newly arrived Italians.
My first language is Italian, I learnt a few words of English before starting school but not enough to communicate in anything but Italian, luckily for me some of my friends at school were my translators. It didn't take long for me to learn English and by Grade two I was awarded the most improved in English, I still have the prize.

When people arrive in Australia without English fluency, the hardest thing is to maintain courage in the face of all that's strange in their new world. Beyond this, how to pronounce new words as English is not phonetic and has many exceptions to the rule in pronunciation and grammar, it takes time and practice to get these right.
I sincerely encourage all migrants to immerse themselves in their new country, join community centres, listen to how people use their words, don't be afraid to ask questions, and find an ally.

Working with migrants and residents who wish to learn English as a second language is a passion of mine and one I pride myself on. I aim to provide a high quality and personalised approach to each student, taking the time to understand their own unique circumstances and expectations.
